HIGHWAY EXIT

ANOTHER PERFECT MISTAKE

First week of recordings at SCA studio is over and here’s the story..

We decided to start the whole recording thing from the vocal tracks and we’ll probably complete it by the end of next week. After that Nick with Anthony will continue with the guitars at SCA studio and Jay and I move to the Macia studios for the drums (resident engineer Dimitris Karpouzas – the best last name out there). Nick and I found it a good idea to save time by recording guitars and drums in two different studios at the same time  so that  we’ll have more time for the final mix sessions with Aris Christou at SCA. So ‘Miles and Miles’, ‘Pregnant’, ‘Perfect Mistake’ and ‘End Is Near’ were the first four tracks I recorded this week and hopefully I’ll record 6-7 more next week. How do they sound? Hard, fresh, strong, different..hmmm Cyanna is entering a whole new soundscape with this album. I hope the people like it when it comes out because this is what we have right now, we wouldnt write or play anything else.

What’s interesting about these sessions is the exact recording method that Aris Christou and I decided to follow. First I record myself alone in the mix room (i.e NOT in the recording booth). I lay down the basic vocal tracks focused, alone in a room like if I were at our home Mercury studio. Then I call Aris in and we listen to the takes. We correct the errors, we choose the best expressions, sometimes if needed he records my backing vocals again (high pitch is breaking my balls sometimes) and that’s it. Next song and so on. Aris Christou is a very intelligent and open minded man that adapts to any situation in order to deliver the best results, and that’s the man you want to work with making an album, especially if you are a self-centered, weird musician.

It’s a lazy Sunday afternoon and I’m looking at this award we won at the Mad Video Music Awards for ‘Shine’. It reads ‘Best Videoclip – Alternative’. It’s shiny and looks heavy, but the sound of the metal it’s made of, when you hold it is kinda hollow. Awards are empty vessels I guess, you are supposed to put your soul in there, but I ain’t ready to give away mine yet. We’ll try to put our souls in this new album we’re making instead. Thank you everybody who voted for us.
