HIGHWAY EXIT

YOUTH HOSTEL

Back to the studio since early September to finish off the new album. Spending half a day every single day at SCA studio mixing and recording bits and pieces forgotten and left since we stopped recording in August. Nick, Anthony, Jason and Spyreas in 2 or 3 people shifts. Our manager paying visits from time to time. It’s his house that we spend most of the rest of our time planning, brainstorming, chilling, drinking and -at some point- sleeping. His house is the place we always return after exhausting nights out trying to shake off the everyday studio work stress that sometimes I admit is more than overwhelming. It has become a sanctuary, not only for the band but for many other friends as well – we call it our Youth Hostel, mr George Mouzis is our host and Maria is the coffee dealer. (more…)

SUMMER LOG 09

Mid August in Athens. In between short holidays on various greek islands. Trying to catch our breaths after months of constant effort.

In July, as planned we recorded vocals and guitars for the new album with Aris Christou at SCA studio. Not all 12 songs but definately 10 are ready to be mixed in September. Our new member Anthony, has added a distinctive twist to the sound and presence of the guitar in this album. Soon you will be able to find out for yourselves when the first single comes out. ANOTHER PERFECT MISTAKE

First week of recordings at SCA studio is over and here’s the story..

We decided to start the whole recording thing from the vocal tracks and we’ll probably complete it by the end of next week. After that Nick with Anthony will continue with the guitars at SCA studio and Jay and I move to the Macia studios for the drums (resident engineer Dimitris Karpouzas – the best last name out there). Nick and I found it a good idea to save time by recording guitars and drums in two different studios at the same time  so that  we’ll have more time for the final mix sessions with Aris Christou at SCA. So ‘Miles and Miles’, ‘Pregnant’, ‘Perfect Mistake’ and ‘End Is Near’ (more…)

Studio Report May07

Unfortunately we’ve had some more setbacks and delays and so the album is not ready yet.

The last three weeks we have been mixing with Aris Christou (again after 2 years of working mostly with Teo Zefkilis) but the mixing sessions are not frequent enough for the album to finish. However the results are more than encouraging and only a few songs are left to be completed.

In the meantime “Done Be” and “TV Nation” (included in the promo sampler we have been giving away to radio producers and stuff) are receiving some serious airplay on Best Radio, and so we gave an interview on Claudia Matola’s show (14:00-16:00 GMT +2) last Saturday regarding the whole Coca-cola Soundwave competition thing.

We have been working on these tracks for almost a year. We have been working on general ideas for this album (most of which have obviously been abandoned) for almost two years. I can’t help but wonder how much longer will this epic take.. it has been a looooooong painful process. Fun too.

Who knows.

Studio Report (part 33 1/3)

The first album was the “under pressure” one. We loved it, we remember the time we had makin it and we miss it. The experience was mind+heart-blowing, we discovered our limits, at least we think we did (but we hope they are further more..). It’s been a year and a half since its completion and I can still smell hot coffee and cigarettes from the mixing room, I can still see Sertab the cat fiddling around, I can still hear the jokes Sir Christou Aris and Teo made..
Maybe it’s all because we are back in there..:)

This album is the slow one. It’s pressure is released bit by bit, day by day, song after song. This album is free. New songs, old songs, and everything in between. Influences, fetishes, die hard habits, bad manners, fears and tears, joy and faith, misery and denial.. no future but not giving up? Not yet. Cyanna will hit the world at least one more time.

“Ebabe” is nearly through. Next up: “Soul Party” and a new, unnamed yet track. Temporarily called “Ambient song”.

Baby calling to its mother. My loving one.
..they later grow up to become demons. like us..
